Welcome Green Valley (AZ). This was our two hours of snow for the winter of 2021.


But now we're well into spring. We've taken the Casita into Tucson, had the AC unit replaced, a heat strip installed (that gives us an alternative heater to the propane furnace), the propane tanks charged, wheel bearings packed, and a power cutoff switch placed inline between the battery and several small components that drain it all the time e.g. a carbon monoxide sensor....

We plan to take four days getting to New Orleans and look forward to staying in some more Texas state parks along the way. We booked them several months ago; our experience last fall was that if you don't book early you don't get in - due to only half the spaces being used in order to maintain social distancing a la COVID. As more get vaccinated and things reopen that may change. We shall see.

Any way, we're out of here Tuesday and will be blogging from time to time throughout the summer. Travel plans include New Orleans, Dundee (FL), Virginia Beach, DC, Shepherdstown (WVa), Geneseo and Henderson Harbor (NY), Ridgefield (CT), the Adirondacks, and  Maine - hoping the border will reopen later this summer.

Saturday 10/9 - almost Thanksgiving

My apologies for not getting this post out 'til Monday (October 11). The past weekend was a bit of a whirl with two Thanksgiving dinners and a trip to Halifax, but more about that next week. We started off this week by washing the pile of dishes left over from the Saturday night dinner while suffering a few low level after effects. Then Melanie and I went out to the shed to find out how our bisque firing turned out. It was fine - no shattered pieces - so now we'll do some glazing and then fire again. Craig and Andrea stopped by, with their kids, on the way back to Halifax - good to see them, first time since summer of '19 - the kids are bigger, surprise. Also, I've heard, via the grapevine which has very long tendrils, that cousin Bob is back on the golf course now with the assistance of a special cart and his strong left arm. Saturday 4 September

Monday: Took Melanie' s Hyundai up to Ted Embree this morning for pre-inspection inspection. Melanie drove, first time in quite a few months. Chatting with Ted, who has been working on our vehicles for a number of years, we got into a discussion of family. He was surprised when I told him I'd first come to The Shore in 1954, that my grandfather had built the Green Cottage in 1908, and that Clare Christie is my first cousin.  Came back home to watch more news of Ida on the Weather Channel and read local news in my online copy of Saltwire. One of the lead stories was  Cape Breton police rein in wandering horse, lead it to rightful owner , very different from the daily news we've been consuming in the States. In fact, I decided to remove the major newspapers from my browser 's Bookmark Bar. The Journey Begins

In mid-August - after months in Green Valley (AZ) followed by months in New Orleans (LA) we began to go stir crazy. What are we going to do, we're tired of staying at 'home;' we've both had the dread disease; we've both had positive antibody tests to prove it; we can't get into Canada.  Let's get another travel trailer and hit the road. We spent a few days looking at trailers near New Orleans - most were too big. Why not get another, but newer, Casita, like the one we had ten years ago? I put an ad on the Facebook Casita Forum website: Hi all, we've just joined your group. Melanie and I (Charlie) had a Casita about ten years ago, sold it, and are now looking for a replacement. Any suggestions would be much appreciated - preferably in the southeast, anywhere between TX, FL and WV. A gentleman sent me a message.
